Tokyo Laundry Men's Shawl Necked Cardigan

For today's post I'm highlighting the one item of clothing that no man's wardrobe should ever be without - the humble cardigan.

Having undergone a rebrand in recent years (not too long ago the pre-enlightenment masses mocked and maligned knitwear as belonging exclusively to elderly citizens or the prematurley aged), few fashion concious men would have any qualms about sporting a cardigan either as part of their day-to-day attire or as the centrepiece of a more formal ensemble.

The item sported in this post is an example of how traditional knitwear styles have modernised, and constitutes one of the key items from the latest seasonal range by Tokyo Laundry .

The brand are noted for blending Eastern typography and modern, youthful zest with more traditionally American collegiate looks - thus, whilst seeking inspiration from vintage styles, manage to create a contemporary look and feel to their garments through their hybridisation. This Kanto patterned shawl neck cardigan is no exception to the rule.

Designed with a jacquard knit pattern slit side pockets and a duffle toggle placket, Tokyo Laundry's cardigan takes a nod towards the classical in it's features. Yet a ribbed hem, cuffs and branded woven badge act as signifiers to the knitwear's up to the minute, on trend nature.

Currently retailing at just £27.99 (and also available in a much paler shade of grey), the item constitutes something of a "must have". Whereas, in this illustration, I've teamed the cardigan in a smart-casual combination in lieu of a jacket, the item is versatile enough to encompass an array of different looks. Tokyo Laundry, for example, have suggested the wearer sport the shawl neck in combination with "a plain t-shirt, coloured jeans and desert boots for an easy casual look." At the opposite end of the spectrum, warn with a monochrome shirt and tie ensemble in place of a jacket, this "Kanto" can put a unique twist on a classic look.
