Music Monday: Jenny Lewis

There are, I believe, two distinct types of people in the world. Firstly, there are those who think Jenny Lewis is one of the great singers of our time and revere her musical output with unbridled passion. Then, there are those who do not know her as of yet. If you're in the latter camp, by the end of this post you'll be pleased to know that you will have migrated to the former.

In anticipation of her first solo record in six years , The Voyager (due for release on July 29th), The Totality dedicates today's Music Monday to her.

After the split of Rilo Kiley (the band she fronted and with whom she made her name after a successful career as a child actress), Ms Lewis has toyed with singing back-up on other bands' records, duetting with her partner and finally making her return as a singer-songwriter with "Completely Not Me" - a deft composition which debuted in the end title credits of an episode of Girls in January of this year.

Whilst the song sadly doesn't make the track-listing of the the forthcoming The Voyager record, its lilting, swaying verses, morose choruses and neurotic, confessional lyrics provide a fantastic introduction to the incredibly talented musician.
